My daughter is 9 and loves doing block building kits (Lego, Mega Construx, etc.). I thought she might enjoy this kit as well, and I was right. She put this together the day after Christmas. She had no trouble putting it together by herself, though I believe there were a couple of blocks that were different shades of green but otherwise the same kind of block that weren��t differentiated very well in the manual, and I don��t think the manual had a parts list.This does play a song, but instead of using batteries, it has a wind-up mechanism. The key is also used to adjust the volume of the music. My daughter liked it, and I think it looked cool after it was done, and the music played just fine. All in all, it was a nice little kit.
My son and I put built this together which was great bonding time. It is similar to regular Legos. Had easy to follow instructions along with a tool to help take the bricks apart in case you put click the wrong ones together. It is a music box and it winds up and plays wonderfully. The song is "We Wish You a Merry Christmas". There is a choo-choo train that goes around the tree when it is playing. For me, it is a little pricey since it is not the actual Lego brand. I am glad we got this because it is a great addition to our Christmas decorations. I recommend!
My fourteen year old put this together solo in one sitting. The instructions are like those of Lego sets with pictures only and no written instructions. It is pretty straight forward and he didn't find any errors in the instructions. The bags containing the building pieces aren't numbered so you will have to open all the bags when you start. We put each bag into a small dish to make searching for pieces easier. The only issue we have is that the turning mechanism for the musical box has a little trouble spinning with the weight of the blocks to turn. It does well for about 8 to 10 seconds then stops sporadically before stopping altogether. So it doesn't play the music but a few seconds. But other than that it is a fun kit to put together and looks very nice on a shelf for Christmas.
